HB man dies in multi-vehicle crash near church

A 44-year-old man was killed in an eight-vehicle traffic collision Friday afternoon near Resurrection Lutheran Church, Huntington Beach police said.

Police at about 12:30 p.m. responded to reports of a traffic accident in the 9800 block of Hamilton Avenue.

Officers responded and found eight damaged vehicles and two pedestrians involved in the accident, police said.

A 41-year-old woman driving a silver 2008 Honda Pilot was crossing Hamilton Avenue and crashed with a red Pontiac G8 and a gray GMB Yukon, according to a preliminary police investigation.

Police reported the Pilot then traveled back toward the church, hit two pedestrians and five parked cars.

The driver of the Pilot and her passengers, an 8-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

The 78-year-old woman driving the Pontiac was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, and the 34-year-old woman driving the Yukon was not injured, police reported.

A 52-year-old man from Huntington Beach was one of the pedestrians hit. He suffered major injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The second pedestrian, Robert Borkland, 44, of Huntington Beach, died at the scene.

Police are investigating the accident. So far, no citations have been issued, and no arrests have been made.
