He walks into businesses asking for a cup of water and walks out with cell phones, police say.

The Garden Grove PD on Thursday issued a crime alert asking for the public’s help in identifying a male Korean who so far has hit up at least three businesses.

The crimes occurred Monday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 1:40 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Police describe the suspect as between 50 and 53 years old, 160 pounds, with short black hair and medium build. He has a long and skinny face, police say. He was caught on surveillance camera and was seen wearing a white cap, white short-sleeved T-shirt and short, bright-colored pants.

The suspect uses the ruse of asking for water to distract the owners of the businesses and when they go to get him water he flees with cell phones left on counters, police say.

Police remind people to never leave valuables in plain view and unattended.
