Behind the Badge
The police department’s “mobile” citizen’s academy is proving popular.
It recently wrapped its sixth version of the community-based class at Sunkist Elementary School with a graduation ceremony for the 42 participants.
It was the largest class to date, and helps fulfill part of Police Chief Raul Quezada’s priority of engaging the community.
The police department had held a citizen’s academy for years out of the police department, but two years ago decided to take it to residents.
“The goal is to engage neighborhoods in the fight against crime and also give participants a better understanding of police work,” said Lt. Bob Dunn. “We want to have the best possible relationship with every neighborhood in Anaheim. Doing so will enable us to make Anaheim even safer.”
