Two Fullerton police officers placed a known gang member and convicted felon behind bars after following up on some suspicious activity in the area of Basque and Hill Avenues on Saturday afternoon.
Once he was spotted by officers, the man and his passenger sped away quickly in a car but he was eventually stopped near the corner of Orchard and Porter Avenues.
Thanks to a civilian call to dispatch, the officers learned an unloaded .22 caliber handgun was found where the encounter first took place and were able to link the weapon to the man.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun. The passenger was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
