A New Jersey pet shop owner is facing animal cruelty charges after police found 67 puppies stuffed in small crates in the back of a white utility van.
Police said the van was not properly ventilated and the puppies were stored in the tight quarters with temperatures dropping to 38 degrees.
Some of the puppies were stuffed into boxes so small they couldn’t fully stand, the NY Daily News reported.
The dogs were taken to an animal hospital where 15 needed treatment.
The Paramus Health Department shut down the pet shop pending an investigation.
