Editor’s Note: The Fullerton PD updated this story late Friday afternoon. “After consulting with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office today, both Simmons and Evans were released pending further investigation due to conflicting accounts about what may have occurred leading up to, and during, the altercation last night,” a news release said. Below is the original story posted earlier Friday.

A domestic dispute led to the killing of a 40-year-old man outside a Fullerton apartment complex Thursday night.

A 22-year-old man also was wounded and two men have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

The victims and suspects knew each other, police said.

At about 9:42 p.m. on Nov. 3, Fullerton police responded to the 1300 block of South Orange Avenue after numerous reports of shots fired in the area.

When they arrived, police discovered two men with gunshot wounds outside the complex.

After police performed lifesaving measures at the scene, the men were transported to the hospital.

The 40-year-old had been shot several times in the upper body and was pronounced dead on arrival and the 22-year-old had a gunshot wound in the hand.

Zachary Simmons, 20, of Moreno Valley and Andre Evans, 39, of Hesperia were found in the area and have been arrested in connection with the shootings.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact Det. Gardea at 714-738-6728. Information also can be provided anonymously through Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227) or at occrimestoppers.org
