The La Habra Police Department is teaming up with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency to conduct a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday Sept. 27 and help members of the public dispose of unused drugs and avoid potential drug abuse or overdoses.
“The purpose of this Take Back Day is to provide a venue for people to anonymously dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs safely and, at the same time, remove potentially dangerous prescription medications, particularly controlled substances, from our nation’s medicine cabinets,” said La Habra Police Sgt. Brian Miller.
Miller noted that drug abuse continues to plague the public.
“Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet,” Miller said.
La Habra is one of several law enforcement agencies taking part in the Take Back Day. Those wanting to dispose of the drugs can do so between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 27 at the La Habra Police Department, located at 150 N. Euclid Street, La Habra.
Illegal drugs and needles will not be accepted.
