An FBI study of attacks on police officers in 2016 found that 28% of the assailants were specifically targeting police officers. The study said, “The assailants inspired by social and/or political reasons believed that attacking police officers was their way to ‘get justice’ for those who had been, in their view, unjustly killed by law-enforcement.”
So far this year there have been 25 police officers killed by gunfire according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
