This Saturday Oct. 25, members of the public are invited to the third annual Open House at the Fullerton Police Department.
“By opening up our doors to the residents of Fullerton, we can provide an up-close look at the work we do each day to protect and serve them,” Fullerton Police Chief Dan Hughes said.
Thousands of residents showed up for last year’s second Open House.
The Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature department tours, including the shooting range where visitors can try out the PRISM weapons simulator. There will be K-9 and SWAT demonstrations and vehicle displays.
Children can visit the finger printing and safety booths and take home a Red Ribbon Drug-Free Pledge banner. In fact, the event will coincide with the start of Red Ribbon Week, which is a weeklong effort to educate school children about the dangers of drug use and abuse.
Residents will also be able to meet Fullerton police officers, get information about Neighborhood Watch, iWatch and Crime Mapping and learn how the police department is using social media to interact with residents and even follow up on crime tips.
Also that day, several nonprofits that work collaboratively with the Fullerton Police Department will be on hand to offer information. Some of those include Coast to Coast Foundation, which works with Fullerton PD officers to assist the homeless, the Pathways of Hope and the Fullerton Collaborative.
Another partner at the event will be the nonprofit Officers Give Hope, which will host a bone marrow drive. The nonprofit works with public safety agencies to find a match for patients awaiting a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
