Police departments always are looking to recruit the best of the best. Folks at the Huntsville, Ala. Police Department are no different.
The HPD recently released a video demonstrating the physical ability and agility tests applicants must complete before joining the force. Things get a little interesting when their trusty T-Rex goes head to head with some fellow recruits.
Officer Kissich of the Huntsville PD walks applicants through each test, beginning with pushups, situps and a 1.5-mile run. It’s safe to say that T-Rex didn’t prove to be the most physically fit recruit.
Next up was the agility portion, consisting of pushing a patrol car, scaling a wall and negotiating a window. Finally, recruits must traverse a balance beam and move a 165-pound dummy. T-Rex consistently trails behind Officer Evergin, who breezes through each phase.
The video is an effort by the Huntsville PD’s new recruitment team. Sgt. Tesla Hughes not only played the role of editor and filmmaker, but also is the star (she’s the T-Rex). The recruitment team hopes to take efforts in a new direction and says more videos, both comedic and motivational, should be expected.
In all seriousness, the recruiting process is “an extremely detailed, intricate and lengthy process,” according to the HPD website. The physical agility/ability test is just the beginning of the process, which lasts approximately six months.
