The Anaheim PD Explorers have found success.
At a recent Orange County Law Enforcement Explorers Advisors Association competition, a team of four APD Explorers won, for the first time, the coveted First Place overall award.
“Their dedication to the Anaheim Explorer Post #249 is to be commended and recognized,” said Officer Leslie Vargas, an Explorers advisor who also helps run Cops 4 Kids program.
“The knowledge and experience they have gained will continue to guide them to a brighter future. I look forward to all their future endeavors and success,” Vargas said.
Three teams of four from Anaheim Police Explorer Post 249 competed in the annual Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer competition, a two-day test of knowledge in 14 different police tactics categories such as mental health evaluations, vehicle stops and in-progress crimes.
The members of the winning team are Arumi Hernandez, 19; Matthew Bevins, 17; Anthony Melendrez, 19; and Garrett Orand, 20.
Fifty teams from Orange and Los Angeles counties participated in the competition.
In addition to the First Place overall award, the APD Explorers won five team awards.
Hernandez also received an award for her Third Place finish on the obstacle course.
