In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel is pictured with Parkland shooting survivor Anthony Borges in the hospital.

Borges’ actions during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting are being called heroic. He was able to lock the door to a classroom, leaving the other 20 students in the room unharmed. Borges suffered shots in his back and legs as he locked the door and blocked the doorway with his body.

“None of us knew what to do,” Borges’ best friend Carlos Rodriguez told ABC News. “So, he took the initiative to just save his other classmates.”

Rodriguez and many others credit Borges with saving lives. Although he survived, Borges still has a difficult road ahead with more surgeries and a long recovery.

A GoFundMe page has been flooded with support, raising more than $100,000 since being posted on Thursday.

“He’s my hero,” said Royer Borges, the boy’s father. “I only ask that people pray for him.”
