The Tustin Police Department is hosting Tustin Take Back Day so residents can safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications.
The police department is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to hold the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 in the parking lot of the Tustin Police Department, 300 Centennial Way.
This event is part of the National Take-Back Initiative, designed to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from the community. Abused or improperly taken medication is a leading cause of accidental poisoning, according to the Tustin Police Department, and medications that are flushed or put into the garbage bin can become an environmental pollutant.
During Tustin Take Back Day, all types of medications will be accepted, except for hypodermic syringes. Those can be disposed of in puncture-proof containers at Orange County household hazardous waste collection centers in Anaheim, Irvine, Huntington Beach, or San Juan Capistrano.
