Behind the Badge
The Anaheim PD on June 1 once again participated in the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run, taking the torch from its neighbors from the Garden Grove PD and passing it off to a team from the Fullerton PD.
Acting Chief Julian Harvey joined the team of runners, which included officers, professional staff, cadets and explorers.
The run started near the Anaheim city border at Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue and proceeded north 4.5 miles, ending near the city boundary at Harbor Boulevard and the 91 Freeway.
In 1981, police in Kansas began this proud tradition to serve as the “Guardians of the Flame” to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics. In the 37 years since running with the “Flame of Hope” began, the event has spread not only all over the United States but around the globe.
