A Westminster officer was recently honored for reviving a man police said overdosed on heroin and stopped breathing.
Officer Alan Emerson just after 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 responded to the 5200 block of Horsham Avenue after someone called to report a middle-aged man not breathing.
Emerson arrived within three minutes and was first on the scene, police said.
When he arrived, the man was on the floor, with his eyes fixed open and no pulse. The person who called for help was in hysterics, police said.
Emerson started CPR and, after a short time, was able to detect a pulse.
The officer continued to monitor the man until paramedics arrived.
Emerson was recently recognized by Westminster Police Chief Kevin Baker with an official commendation for his actions that morning.
