On January 8, 2020, a Clovis, New Mexico police officer was on a car stop when she discovered the driver was lying about his name. A search of the vehicle revealed a concealed handgun. When the officer went to arrest the driver he resisted, managing to assault the officer with the handcuffs. That’s when the foot pursuit started. It’s unknown if the suspect knew he was dealing with a K-9 officer. During the subsequent foot pursuit, she released her K-9 and ordered him to take down the suspect. The crook’s efforts were short lived as the officer’s K-9 quickly overtook him and held him for his partner. Once again, a police K-9 demonstrated its value to police work and especially to his partner.
