A man suspected of being involved in a hit and run collision sustained a Taser shot before leading police on a foot pursuit, fighting with officers and finally being arrested.
Police on Feb. 8 were called to investigate a hit-and-run near Goldenwest Street and Trask Avenue.
When officers arrived, they tried to contact the suspect, but he ran on foot.
After about a quarter-mile, the suspect stopped and Westminster officers gave commands for the man to get on the ground, but he refused to comply, police said.
The suspect turned away from officers and reached into his waistband.
Officers deployed a Taser, but instead of it crippling the man to the ground, the suspect pulled the probes out and ran again.
Police caught up with the suspect near Westminster Avenue and Rondeau Street.
The suspect continued to fight with officers, but they apprehended him safely, police said.
Officers Rachel Proulx, Chris Nguyen and Jeremy Hill were recognized in March for their work on this incident.
“The officers demonstrated great professionalism, teamwork, communication and made great decisions throughout the entire incident,” said Sgt. Bill Drinnin.
Police Chief Kevin Baker presented the officers with an official commendation.
