Westminster police are looking for a man who robbed a local Mexican restaurant with a handgun Tuesday night.
Police at about 11:50 p.m. responded to reports of a robbery at Taco Surf in the 6000 block of Westminster Boulevard.
Employees told police the suspect, described as 200-pound white man in his 30s with a red beard, came in the restaurant after closing, flashed a handgun and demanded the manager turn over the cash from the safe. Police said the man fled with about $2,000.
“The circumstances of this robbery are unusual and uncharacteristic for this area,” said Cmdr. Cameron Knauerhaze. “The suspect took some high risks for so little reward.”
Detectives are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to call 714-898-3315. Callers can remain anonymous. Anonymous tips can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS or CrimeStoppers.org.
