The San Antonio Police Department is mourning the death of fellow officer Miguel Moreno, who passed away June 30 after suffering a gunshot while on patrol. But just days later, the kind gesture of a young girl helped bring some comfort to Moreno’s colleagues.
Paige Vasquez, 8, was dining with her family at a San Antonio restaurant last Wednesday when she spotted a table of officers across the way. Without hesitation, Paige walked up to their table and asked if she could pray for the group.
“I always pray for people…and police officers, because I know they have a rough time sometimes and sometimes a little prayer can make someone’s day…” Paige told Inside Edition.
The touching encounter was posted to Facebook by Paige’s grandmother and has been shared almost 4,000 times. The San Antonio Police Department has shared the image of Paige praying with the officers to their Facebook page, calling it, “A wonderful moment to lift our spirits on the hardest of days….”
Although she may not have expected viral recognition, Paige’s mother is not surprised by her daughter’s act of kindness.
“She’s very caring. She’s very loving. She has a very old soul…It just amazes me just because she’s so young,” Kat Garcia said.
The officers thanked Paige for her kindness afterward. Officer Moreno was laid to rest Friday.
