Our thought and prayers are with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the friends and family of Deputy David Michel, who was killed Wednesday, June 22, in Harvey, La.
Deputy Michel was making a pedestrian stop as part of a crime suppression team when the suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot him three times in the back. According to news accounts, the suspect was on probation and did not want to go to jail for possessing a handgun.
Deputy Michel is the 49th officer to die in the line of duty this year and the 20th to be killed by gunfire.
