A 62-year-old Costa Mesa man died after he was struck by a car near Yorktown Avenue and Education Lane, according to Huntington Beach police officials.
Police at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday responded to reports of a traffic accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a green 2004 Nissan Sentra, according to police.
The 62-year-old pedestrian was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition.
William Rowland Jr. died from his injuries on Saturday, the Orange County Coroner’s office reported.
Witnesses told police Rowland was crossing the street when he was hit.
Police reported a preliminary investigation shows the driver was traveling westbound on Yorktown Avenue when he struck Rowland.
The driver, a 64-year-old Huntington Beach resident, stayed at the scene and was interviewed by police.
Police said there have been no citations issued or arrests made at this time.
