Former Fullerton youth soccer club treasurer stole nearly $175,000 from club, police say

A former treasurer of the Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $174,000 from the organization from 2012 through 2014, the Fullerton PD said in a news release.

Laura Zellerbach, 41, of Long Beach, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 10:45 a.m. by FPD detectives in Lakewood.

In May 2015, the Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club reported the possible embezzlement of more than $30,000 to the FPD.

Following an extensive investigation, FPD detectives determined that more than $174,000 allegedly had been embezzled by Zellerbach during the time she was treasurer of the Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club.

FPD detectives in the Crimes Property Unit obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the amount of $250,000 for Zellerbach, alleging money laundering, forgery of records, grand theft, misappropriation of property, and embezzlement.

Since 2004, The Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club’s Competitive program has grown into one of the top 20 programs in the nation, according to the club’s website.

The club won back-to-back National Championships (2011-2012) and important tournaments such as Regional Championships, Surf Cup and the most prestigious international youth tournament, the Dallas Cup, in 2011 and 2012.
