A card, a candy bar and a special note is all it takes to make someone special smile for Valentine’s Day, and this year Bakersfield Police Department’s Communications Department hand delivered their homemade candygrams to help raise funds for National Dispatchers Week, held the second week in April.
“We do a few different fundraisers throughout the year so we can raise money to celebrate all of our dispatchers,” said Rachelle Beeson, Communications Supervisor for Bakersfield Police Department. “For Valentine’s Day we make these candygrams, we do them again for Veteran’s Day, we have raffles and this year we are going to be selling dispatch t-shirts with slogans that say “We send the sirens” and “Give us your worst and we will send you, our best.”
This is the second year Bakersfield’s communications unit has started to fundraise to celebrate their 44 employees who make up the team.
“We made $160 for our Valentine’s Day fundraiser; and our t-shirt fundraiser will roll out in the next few weeks. We really like to show our appreciation to our team.”
