Man who stabbed resident shot by Garden Grove police

A man who forced his way into a home Saturday morning, then threatened a female resident with a knife and stabbed a male resident, was shot and killed by Garden Grove police, according to a news release.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident, which occurred at 8:02 a.m. at the home in the 9900 block of Aldgate Avenue.

Police say the suspect, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, tried to force his way into the rear door of the home. Residents called the police to report the attempted burglary in progress, according to the news release.

The suspect told the residents he was being chased and asked to be let in. Once inside, the suspect armed himself with a knife and threatened to kill a female resident, according to the news release.

A male resident armed himself with a shotgun and the suspect stabbed the male resident in the arm, police say.

At that point, Garden Grove officers were entering the residence and confronted the suspect. An officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The male resident was transported to the Garden Grove Medical Center, where he is being treated for his stab wound, but is in stable condition.

No officers were injured.

No other details about the shooting were released.
