Huntington Beach police engaged in a slow-speed vehicle pursuit Tuesday night with a 76-year-old man driving a military vehicle.
Police at about 7:45 p.m. responded to reports of a suspicious military vehicle near Goldenwest Street and Edinger Avenue.
Officers tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver would not stop, according to Huntington Beach police officials.
He led officers on a pursuit at about 10 miles per hour down Goldenwest Street before pulling over near Garfield Avenue, police reported.
The military vehicle expelled loud popping noises as it made its way down the street, which officers later determined to be engine backfire.
Police arrested the 76-year-old man and later released him with a citation for failing to yield.
The resident recently purchased the surplus military vehicle in Arizona. The vehicle was left at the scene.
