Anaheim Fire & Rescue and three other O.C. fire agencies hosted a Fire Service Day at the North Net Training Center on Saturday, Oct. 3, that attracted more than 1,000 kids and adults who were curious to check out equipment and demonstrations.
Behind the Badge OC Photographer Steven Georges attended the three-hour event, which also included personnel from the Garden Grove Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department and the Fullerton Fire Department.
Jill Henninger of Anaheim brought her 4-year-old son, Caleb. They met some friends with two other boys there after seeing the event publicized on Facebook.
“It’s been really awesome,” Henninger said. “There are really cool demonstrations, between the car-extraction stuff and the rappelling….The kids got to sit in the big fire truck, the one with the ladder, and they got to shoot the fire hose, which was really neat.
“It’s just a cool day. It’s a great event for the community.”

Jill Mann of Placentia brought her two daughters, 5 and 7, and their two best friends to check out the event.
“We just wanted to see what it was all about and show the kids what these local heroes do,” Mann said. “They were just in awe.”
