The Tustin PD has arrested a man who stole a vehicle and attempted to flee from officers.
The incident happened around 5:51 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the area of 13200 Myford Road.
Officers got a call about a person in a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from Huntington Beach.
The officers approached the vehicle and the suspect then tried to evade officers by driving away. The suspect drove recklessly through an apartment complex, resulting in damage to a building and light pole.
After hitting a parked car, the suspect abandoned his car and ran.
A police service dog then was deployed and after the suspect fought and assaulted the K9, officers used a taser to bring the suspect into custody. He was transported to a hospital with injuries.
The suspect was identified as Justin Hayes, 27, of Orange. Hayes has a criminal history including two outstanding warrants for arrest and was on Post Community Release Supervision, according to the Tustin PD.
Hayes was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, felony vandalism, battery of a police service dog, and other outstanding warrants.
