True crime junkies can add a new podcast to their summer binge list with the arrival of the podcast series “Murder on Music Row,” by award-winning journalist Keith Sharon, who works for The Tennessean in Nashville.

Sharon has worn many hats throughout his illustrious writing career, which we talked about in our latest podcast, and also wrote about in a Behind the Badge feature.

He’s written screenplays, walked the red carpet with Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro who were cast in the movie he wrote— Showtime (2002). In 2019, Sharon’s podcast, “Crime Beat,” produced by the Southern California News Group, told the tale of the biggest bank heist in U.S. history, which happened in 1972 in Laguna Niguel. This podcast became the subject of Sharon’s next movie, “Finding Steve McQueen,” which was released in theaters in 2019.

Sharon’s screenwriting skills and decades of experience as a newspaper reporter have found a place in the world of podcasts. An ideal place to merge his script writing, investigative reporting, and audio storytelling. Sharon was a staff writer at Behind the Badge for a stint, writing colorful and investigative pieces on public safety and law enforcement.

His new podcast “Murder on Music Row” is an eight-part true-crime podcast about the 1989 murder of country music chart director Kevin Hughes. The podcast features never-before published reporting on the crime that not only defines Nashville of the 1980s and 1990s, but also shines light on a singer and one-time suspect who has demanded an apology from a detective who refuses to give him one.
