Westminster police outsmarted and out-maneuvered a suspected tagger marking up a freeway overpass Sunday.
Police responded to a phone call from a concerned citizen who reported a man spraying graffiti near the westbound 22 freeway and Hoover Street.
Several officers responded and the suspect ran away on foot into a nearby neighborhood, but he could not evade police, said Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze.
“Every turn by the suspect led him to another WPD officer lying in wait,” Knauerhaze said.
Sgt. Don Webb ultimately tackled the tagger and arrested him.
Webb found narcotics, drug paraphernalia and spray paint on the suspect, police said.
Officers Andy Stowers and Alan Aoki linked the suspect to another nearby tagging that happened Saturday, police said.
The suspect was booked at Orange County Jail.
