Woman in custody for striking Garden Grove officer several times on head with baton

A 38-year-old Garden Grove woman faces assault with a deadly weapon charges after she attacked a female GGPD officer with the officer’s baton during a fight Tuesday morning.

The officer was wearing her motorcycle helmet during the struggle and suffered minor injuries to her face and neck, the GGPD said in a news release Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Elizabeth A. Tran, of Garden Grove, was booked into Central Women’s Jail in Santa Ana in lieu of $50,000 bail. Tran is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, according to OCSD jail records. She is due to appear in court Thursday.

Around 11:03 a.m. Tuesday, the Garden Grove Police motor officer was in the area of 12200 Oertly Circle when she heard a disturbance from a nearby residence.

An additional officer was dispatched to the scene.

The officer located a male and a female exiting the residence from where the disturbance was coming from.

The female suspect then attacked the officer, according to the news release.

During the fight, the suspect was able to wrestle the baton from the officer and strike her several times in the head.

Additional officers arrived on scene and placed the suspect into custody.

The Garden Grove Police officer was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
