A baby girl was found dead lying next to her mother on a mattress early Thursday, the Garden Grove Police Department said in a news release.
An initial investigation by the Orange County Coroner turned up nothing suspicious, police said.
At 2:28 a.m., police responded to a call about a baby in full cardiac arrest at a home in the 12500 block of Adelle Street.
The Garden Grove Fire Department arrived and pronounced the 1½-month-old infant dead.
The infant had fallen asleep on a mattress in the family room lying next to the mother, who called 911 after finding the baby unresponsive.
The Orange County Coroner’s Office will be performing an autopsy.
The mother was extremely distraught and was taken to a hospital, the news release said.
