Even though Sidney Fahrenbruch is only 4 years old, she has long been fascinated with the police.
“It all started about two years ago when she saw an officer directing traffic. It was hot outside and she said, ‘He looks thirsty; he needs water,’ and she brought him a bottle of water,” Sidney’s mom told TODAY.
Since then, Sidney makes weekly visits to her local police station in Longmont, Colo. She usually brings along treats, like candy and cookies, to hand out to the officers. But on a recent visit to the station, she noticed something special: a fundraising poster that had a photo of Officer Kyle Zulauf.
One and a half years ago, Zulauf, an Army veteran and father of three, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Longmont PD has been trying to raise the money he needs to pay for an additional surgery. As soon as Sidney saw the poster, she told her mom she wanted to give Zulauf her piggy bank money, which added up to about $9 in bills and half a bag of change.
“It’s the nice thing to do,” Sidney told TODAY.
Sidney has become a fan favorite at the department. Earlier this year, she asked another officer, David Bonday, to come to her house and check for monsters. Her sincere interest in the lives of the officers hasn’t gone unnoticed, and her act of kindness is greatly appreciated by the entire department.
“Words are not available for what this means to us,” the department said in an accompanying statement.
