A juvenile who broke into a home in Tustin and stole a car from the garage as the resident hid inside the house was arrested early Thursday, Nov. 16, by Tustin PD officers who used a neighboring agency’s K9 unit to get the suspect to surrender after he drove off, crashed and fled on foot.
The name and booking photograph of the male suspect was not released because of his age. He was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall following the incident in the 1400 Block of Madison Street, the TPD said in a news release.
At 5:06 a.m., the resident called 911 to report the residential burglary in progress.
The victim said a male was attempting to break into her home. As she hid, he was able to gain entry and stole the resident’s car as officers were arriving on scene.
The suspect drove away at a high rate of speed, crashed the car, and then ran away, the news release said.
Officers established a perimeter and requested assistance from Brea PD’s K9 unit.
Officers then conducted a house-to-house search and with the assistance of the K9, found the suspect.
The suspect subsequently surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed the suspect has an active warrant for vehicle theft and for being an active participant in a criminal street gang.
