Anaheim Police Department’s annual Awards & Retirement Banquet, held May 16 at the City National Grove in Anaheim, had an Academy Awards vibe, and why not?

Anaheim PD is immersed in proactive policing programs and keeps watch over a city that includes two world-renowned theme parks, two major professional sports franchises and one of the busiest convention centers in the nation.
Recognized for every aspect of service a police agency can perform, the honorees truly are stars.

Many are highly visible and others serve outside of public view.
“Tonight we showcase the great work the men and women of this department do day in and day out,” Police Chief Jorge Cisneros said. “Overall, crime is down. Criminal filings are up and we are responding faster to emergency calls. All of these accomplishments are done with our greatest commodity, our people.”

Special recognition also was paid to the 17 APD members who have retired or are about to retire.
The list includes: Correctional Officer Kathy Alvarado, Sgt. Garet Bonham, Forensic Specialist Scott Flynn, Correctional Officer Pamela Ingram, Traffic Control Supervisor Paul Munoz, Cmdr. Shelley McKerren, Off. Robert McKay, Cpt. Steve Marcin, Capt. Mark Cyprien, and Deputy Chief Julian Harvey.

Harvey also was honored with a career achievement award.
“When a crook needs to get arrested, when a difference needs to be made, most of all, when the community needs that assistance and that support, no one does a better job than the Anaheim Police Department,” Harvey said. “And I’m very proud to have served this agency in every role, most notably as the deputy chief.”

Serving as masters of ceremony were Rick Martinez, an APD officer for 37 years before retiring in 2011, and Michael Villani, a technical reserve with APD and an accomplished actor and radio personality.

Off. Tom Salcido: For his leadership and quick action while handling a catastrophic plane crash
Communications Team 6 Personnel: Recognized for their role in the handling of an armed robbery that occurred in May 2018. Their quick action was crucial in getting officers to the scene and delivering the necessary suspect information. After a long pursuit, the suspects were caught and they were found to be responsible for numerous armed robberies in Orange and L.A. counties.
Officer David Hill: Presented with the V.F.W. Officer of the Year Award for his “hard work and dedication to the community he serves.”
