While there didn’t appear to be anything suspicious about the fire that claimed the life of a of a 41-year-old La Habra man, the exact cause was still unknown Thursday as Los Angeles County Fire officials continued their investigation.

Police and Los Angeles County firefighters were alerted to the blaze at about 9 a.m. Tuesday and arrived to see smoke coming out of the Brooklake Apartments in the 1400 block of South Harbor Boulevard.

“We arrived and found the apartment fully engulfed,” said Acting La Habra Police Capt. Jeff Swaim.

Swaim said officers began evacuating people from the adjacent apartments in the complex.

“Once the fire was extinguished we went in and found the deceased lying on the floor,” Swaim said. “It looks like he was trying to get out but didn’t make it.”

The man who perished in the fire was identified as Kamyar Nikandjam, 41, of La Habra.
