Police chief: Many Anaheim PD policies already align with reform demands

Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros released a letter to the community on June 9, explaining the department’s policies and procedures in response to nationwide calls to defund police agencies and change department policies.

Many of the department’s policies already are in alignment with calls for reform spreading via social media. “In some cases, the policy recommendations that have been suggested for us to adopt have already been in place at APD for nearly a decade,” Cisneros writes.

He points out that “the Anaheim Police Department has never approved a choke or stranglehold as an appropriate technique.” In addition, the department suspended the use of the carotid control hold as of June 8, with an exception for lethal force encounters in life-threatening situations.
