BTBuzz: Police cars to get a lot more stealth

Checking the rear view mirror for the silhouette of a police cruiser is going to get a lot more difficult — good thing for law enforcement, but not so much for law breakers.

Ford on April 7 announced stealth interior light bars will be available on their popular Police Interceptors, making distinguishing the the profile of a police vehicle from other Fords tougher, especially at night.

Many agencies have graduated from the clunky rooftop light bar to a slimmer profile set of rooftop lights for their patrol cars and, in some cases,  have installed interior lights on vehicles they wish to stay under the radar.

This light bar, according to Ford, will trump its post-production counterparts, which can obstruct an officers field of vision, Ford representatives said in a release.

The new light bar is currently available on the 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility.
