More than 20,000 people are expected to pay their respects today to the Palm Spring officers shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

A live stream video of the 11 a.m. memorial ceremony to honor Jose “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny, killed in the line of duty Oct. 8, will be broadcast on the city’s YouTube channel.

Law enforcement officers from across the country, including many from Orange County’s departments, are expected to be out in force to pay tribute to Vega and Zerebny.

Vega, 63,  a 35-year veteran of the force, was expected to retire in December. He leaves behind a wife and eight children.

Zerebny, 27, had served with Palm Springs PD for 18 months and had just returned from maternity leave. She leaves behind a 4-month-old daughter and her husband, a Riverside County sheriff deputy.
