Garden Grove PD announces arrest of suspect in fatal stabbing of man, 19

The Garden Grove PD on Monday announced the arrest of a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man found bleeding to death in a street near an apartment complex May 19.

Forensic evidence led to the arrest May 22 of Troy David Son, 20, of Garden Grove, according to a June 1 news release.

The victim of the 8:57 p.m. attack, which occurred in the area of Avalon Avenue and Fairview Street, was Bryan Ortega, 19, of Garden Grove. He died about an hour later at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

A man described as Asian and wearing dark clothing fled on foot after the attack, according to witnesses.

The Garden Grove PD arrested Son at 3:35 p.m. May 22.

Son is not a documented gang member and the motive for the homicide is unknown at this time, police said.

An unknown stabbing instrument that caused Ortega’s fatal injuries has not been recovered, police said.

Son is scheduled to be arraigned on suspicion of murder June 19.
