Garden Grove police officers early Monday arrested four individuals on suspicion of being in possession of a replica handgun, possessing graffiti tools, vandalism and resisting arrest.

At about 12:18 a.m. Jan. 29, an officer saw two males running from a closed business to a parked vehicle in the 1000 block of Garden Grove Boulevard.

After the individuals got into the vehicle, the officer approached and saw four people inside, including one with a handgun.

When backup arrived, officers surrounded the vehicle and ordered the suspects to get out.

Two complied and were detained. However, the two remaining suspects refused to comply with officers’ commands and remained in the car.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Department K9 was summoned to the scene and barked loudly, but the suspects remained in the car.

After multiple commands and the suspects’ refusal to comply, pepper balls were deployed into the vehicle.

The suspects ultimately complied and were taken into custody with no injuries.

The handgun the officer saw turned out to be a replica semi-automatic airsoft handgun that clearly resembled a real handgun, the GGPD said in a news release. The suspects admitted to tagging nearby businesses and had graffiti tools.

Two suspects also had outstanding arrest warrants for vandalism.

All four were arrested.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call 714-741-5704.
