The Garden Grove PD has arrested a suspected impaired driver who fled the scene of a collision that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking any witnesses to the collision, at 6:40 p.m. Monday at Brookhurst Street and 13th Street, to contact them.

David Colon, 29, of Garden Grove is being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion of being impaired while driving and fleeing the scene of the Dec. 5 collision, the GGPD said in a news release Tuesday.

Police arrived at the scene to find a 55-year-old woman in the roadway. The calling party reported that a car had struck the woman and fled.

The woman suffered what appeared to be possible life-threatening injuries and, after being treated by members of the Garden Grove Fire Department, was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she is listed in critical condition.

Officers began to investigate the collision and through a witness statement learned the vehicle, a 2004 Silver Nissan 350z two door, that was involved in the collision had been abandoned by the driver in the parking lot of Just Tires, at 14040 Brookhurst St.

Officers subsequently located Colon, who admitted he was involved in the collision, the news release said. It later was determined he appeared to be driving while impaired, the release said.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the GGPD Neighborhood Traffic Unit 714-741-5823.
