La Habra Police Chief Jerry Price takes a cool challenge on a hot day

After being called out by Fullerton Police Chief Dan Hughes and Palos Verdes Estates Police Chief Jeff Kepley, a former La Habra PD captain, LHPD Chief Jerry Price was not to be outdone and on Tuesday afternoon got soaked with two buckets of ice water for the Ice Bucket Challenge, a social media fundraiser for fallen police officers.

The challenge was started by the Officer Down Memorial Page, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America’s fallen law enforcement heroes. More than 20,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the United States.

This year alone, 63 officers have been killed in the line of duty.

Price dedicated his icy blast to those officers and to Officer Michael Osornio, the only La Habra officer to die on duty. Osornio was killed when his car was struck by a drunk driver in 1994.
