Garden Grove PD investigators are seeking witnesses to a shooting Sunday night in which a motorist shot a male in a car with his wife and child. The victim, a passenger in the car, suffered a wound to his cheek but the injury is not life threatening, police said in a news release.

The shooting occurred in the 11200 block of Westminster Avenue just before 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1

In a news release, the GGPD provided this narrative:

Officers were dispatched to shots fired into a vehicle where a man was hit in the facial area. His wife drove him to a local hospital where the medical staff treated him for a bullet wound to the cheek.

The victim told officers his wife was driving westbound on Westminster Avenue from Newhope Street and that he believed two vehicles were racing toward their car when he heard a gunshot.

The victim told police he realized he had been hit by a bullet. His wife then drove him to the hospital. The couple’s 10-year-old son was in the backseat, St. Lt. Bob Bogue, a spokesman for the GGPD.

The victim believed one of the vehicles may have been a newer white Cadillac SUV but he did not have any further information on the other vehicle involved or suspect descriptions.

The two cars may have been involved in a street race, said Bogue, who described the victim as a “family man.”

Officers searched the westbound lanes of Westminster Avenue from Newhope Street and located a crime scene where the shooting had occurred. The Orange County Crime Lab was contacted and responded to both locations to process the crime scenes.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or who was a witness to this crime is asked to contact the Garden Grove Police Department at (714) 741-5800.
