A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing to death his stepbrother following an argument inside their Garden Grove apartment Monday evening, police said Tuesday.

Andres Adolfo Serrat is being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday to answer to murder charges, according to online Orange County Sheriff’s Department records.

According to a news release issued by the Garden Grove PD on Tuesday, officers responded to a call at 6:12 p.m. Monday about a family fight inside a unit of the Florentine Apartments, 13200 Casa Linda Lane.

The mother of the victim, 20-year-old Donte Barcalo, reported that Serrat had stabbed his stepbrother after a verbal argument escalated into violence.

Officers arrived to find Barcalo had been stabbed in the chest and side, according to the news release. They rendered first aid until paramedics arrived.

Serrat fled the scene but police located him a few blocks away and arrested him. The knife used in the killing was found at the scene, according to the news release.

Barcalo died following surgery at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
