A Garden Grove police officer was struck by a car in a motel parking lot prior to an officer-involved shooting just after midnight on Sunday, March 11.

Two GGPD officers were on foot patrol in the parking lot of the Grove Motel at 9821 Garden Grove Boulevard when they saw three people inside a Honda Accord parked in a stall.

When the officers tried to make contact with the occupants of the vehicle, they tried to flee and hit an officer with the vehicle. That is when an officer-involved shooting occurred and the driver was shot several times.

The two other people in the car, an adult man and adult woman, were not harmed. Officers detained the two passengers and immediately gave first aid to the driver. When paramedics arrived, they also rendered aide to the driver before transporting them to a local trauma center. The driver’s identity had not been determined when a press release was issued, and the driver’s medical condition is unknown.

The officer that was struck by the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was released after being treated by medical staff.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with the Garden Grove Police Department, is investigating the incident.

The passengers that were in the car are cooperating with detectives and were not arrested.
