A pedestrian who police say bolted into a street and was struck and killed by a car Sunday night was identified Tuesday as Mardoqueo Davila, 19, of Brea.

Davila had been drinking prior to the 9:19 p.m. accident Aug. 10 but his level of intoxication is not known pending an investigation, the Garden Grove PD said in a news release.

The driver of a 2007 blue Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Chapman Avenue in the No. 1 lane when, just east of Haster Street, Davila suddenly ran northbound across Chapman from the south curb, dodging cars as he went.

The driver of the Honda was unable to avoid hitting Davila, who was transported to

UCI Medical Center for emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries.

Police say no charges are anticipated against the male driver, who showed no signs of impairment.
