Pasadena’s Urth Caffé is often crowded with locals who snag a bistro table outside and enjoy the California sunshine and avocado toast.

On Thursday November 7th, Pasadena Police Department took over the duties for the serving staff for a special Tip-A-Cop fundraiser where volunteers raised money for the Special Olympics Pasadena.

Dozens of police officers, detectives, lieutenants, dispatch operators and community specialist spent the hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. bussing tables, serving food and assisting diners at this neighborhood favorite.

Their only request to curious diners, who enjoyed the service from the officers serving them in full-uniform was to donate any tips to the Special Olympics of Pasadena.

“We love being out in the community and getting to see everyone,” said Lt. Carolyn Gordon, who helped organize the event.  “We get raise money for a great cause and have a little fun.”

Pasadena police officers were able to raise $3,300 during the Thursday lunch rush at Urth Caffe, according to Lt. Bill Grisafe.
