Pasadena Police Department in partnership with Dunkin Donuts raised over $500 on Friday, November 2nd for the Special Olympics of Southern California (SOSC.)

This is the second year Pasadena PD has been a part of the national fundraiser “Cop on A Rooftop.” The annual event brings together law enforcement agencies to raise funds for the Special Olympics program.

On an early Friday morning, Police Officer Cristian Allen, along with a handful of Pasadena Police Department officials introduced themselves to locals who came in search of coffee and a maple bar and found a local cause to support.

“We’ve been in partnership with the Special Olympics for years – but, this “Cop on a Rooftop” is new for us. It’s a great way to spread awareness about a program in our community that is helping our youth,” said Allen.

National law enforcement agencies including the Pasadena PD are part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) which is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. The LETR engages law enforcement agencies worldwide in championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. The Torch Run has evolved and now uses a variety of fundraising platforms to accomplish its mission.

“This is a great and fun way to get the word out on what we do,” said Tina Corona, Special Events Coordinator for the SOSC. “Everything we do for our athletes is free. They don’t pay for uniforms, transportation, food or anything that has to do with being a part of the Special Olympics. Even our coaches are volunteers. All they have to do is want to be here.”
