Behind the Badge
The Santa Ana Police Department has proudly welcomed six new officers, Robert Nevarez, Jacob Johnson, Zachary Mora, Breann Gonzalez, Adrian Contreras, and Maira Achutegui into their department.
The six new officers were among the 52 total graduates of Basic Academy Class 239 at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy in Tustin.
At a ceremony on Feb. 26, 2020, Neveres delivered the Class of 239 president’s address, and the keynote speaker was retired Chief Robert Castro of the Glendale PD.

Officer Robert Nevarez
Nevarez was born in Pomona, raised in Upland, and graduated from the School of the Arts and Enterprise high school in Pomona.
He earned his associate of arts degree in general studies from University of Maryland University College.
Nevarez served 5 years in the United States Navy as a master-at-arms and received an honorable discharge at the rank of first-class petty officer.

Officer Jacob Johnson
Johnson was born in Merced and raised in Turlock, where he graduated from Turlock High School.
After high school, Johnson joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country for four years as an infantryman assigned to a scout sniper platoon. He received an honorable discharge at the rank of corporal.

Officer Zachary Mora
Mora was born and raised in Garden Grove and graduated from Servite high school in Anaheim. After high school, Mora continued his education and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in general social science from the University of Oregon.

Officer Breann Gonzalez
Gonzalez was born in Riverside and raised in Eastvale, California where she graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
Breann joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country for five years as an oceanography and meteorology forecaster. She received an honorable discharge at the rank of sergeant.

Officer Adrian Contreras
Contreras was born and raised in Santa Ana and graduated from century high school.
After high school, he continued his education and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from California State University, Fullerton.

Officer Maira Achutegui
Achutegui was born in Long Beach, raised in Wilmington and graduated from Port of Los Angeles High School in San Pedro.
After high school, Achutegui joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country for four years as an aviation maintenance data specialist. She received an honorable discharge at the rank of sergeant.
