Two Anaheim residents are suspected of child abuse after Orange County Social Services officials found their 11-year-old autistic son placed in a dog kennel on Tuesday evening.

The parents of the child, Loi Vu, 40 and Tracy Le 35, were taken into custody by Anaheim Police after Social Services officers received a tip that the child was being kept in the kennel at a home in the 1300 block of South Garrett Street.

The parents may have resorted to placing their son in the dog kennel to help control his behavior and frequent outbursts relating to his autism, according to a department press release. The kennel had a mattress inside and the boy appeared healthy and having his basic needs met, the release said

Officers took the boy and his two younger siblings, a brother and sister, into protective custody.

The parents are facing felony charges of child endangerment and false imprisonment. The investigation is continuing.
